First meeting of the new Coastal Clean Up Team

The inaugural meeting of Wirral's volunteer Coastal Clean Up Team saw residents from across the Borough, and beyond, meet to collect 20 bags of litter.

The Team, set up by Wirral's Conservative Councillors, collected beer cans, bottles, single use plastics and food wrapping between Moreton and Meols.

Councillor Ian Lewis said: "Single use plastics, and the damage they do to our marine environment are all over the news, ever since the fantastic Blue Planet II series on the BBC.

"Our new Coastal Clean Up Team, comprising councillors, and supported by residents who want to do their bit, will complement the great work being done by other groups around the Borough.  Thanks to Claire Brandwood at Wirral Council, and Biffa, as well for their help today."
