Labour forced to scrap plans for parking charges

Following a massive public outcry, Wirral's Labour Leader has scrapped his cabinet's plans for coastal parking charges in the Borough.

Cllr. Davies finally acted after residents, Conservative Councillors and even members of his own Party said the plan was a mistake.

Residents anger at £8,000 parking charges

A day of action in Hoylake and West Kirby saw more than 300 people take part in a public meeting and demonstration against the Town Hall’s plan for coastal parking charges.

Travellers have returned to the site of last year’s problems at The Dips in New Brighton.  Around 20 vehicles have broken through concrete barriers installed after last year’s efforts to have them removed.

Within days of the council elections, Labour Councillors have moved to the next stage of their plan for parking charges at Wirral’s Promenades and coastal areas.

Location of new parking meters to be revealed

Details of where new coastal parking meters are to be installed are set to be revealed in a Town hall 'consultation' starting on 16th May.

The plan is for parking meters at coastal areas, including promenades, at Moreton, Wallasey, Hoylake, Meols and West Kirby.
