Wirral's Labour Council has announced that it is advanced stages of discussions with Alpha Living to enable them to build a 3 storey care facility on the site of Girtrell Court in Saughall Massie.
Girtrell Court was the Council's last centre providing respite care for families who needed a break for their loved ones with additional needs. In spite of a big campaign by staff, unions and families, backed by Councillors Bruce Berry, Chris Blakeley and Steve Williams, the Town Hall closed Girtrell Court.
The Town Hall is selling the site to Alpha Living for £250,000 less than it is worth. At a street surgery for people living nearby earlier today, Councillor Bruce Berry listened to the views of residents. While they are broadly supportive of retaining the site for care, they are concerned that the size of the proposed building - at 3 storeys - will dominate their neighbourhood.
If you agree, sign the petition below, asking Alpha Living to amend their plans. If Bruce is re-elected as Councillor on Thursday 3rd May, he will submit this petition to Alpha Living at a meeting with their senior directors.
