I can genuinely call myself 'a local candidate' - I have lived all but seven years of my life in the Bromborough, New Ferry, Port Sunlight and Bebington area. Many people will know me from my shop in New Ferry, that I ran for 16 years, before I had to close it as the footfall in the precinct had fallen dramatically, owing to the opening of the Croft Retail Park.
During those 16 years, the shop, apart from selling goods, became part of the community. Customers were known to me on personal name terms. The rear room of the shop was used many times to counsel customers in their varying problems.
My other work arises from St Marks, serving people in New Ferry, Port Sunlight and Bromborough.
I have many contacts with people who know me, either by attending the services or those that I take in the community including residential Homes, peoples' own homes and community halls. I visit people who are in need; people who have many health problems and people who have family relationship issues and need help and support.
To all these visits, I assure the people that if they need me, I am available 24/7.
I have often been taken up on that offer - I have been with them in Arrowe Park Hospital in the middle of the night on occasions and have been only too pleased to help. I have also been called to their homes day and night when they have felt they couldn't cope.
That is only part of a ministers responsibility - I am not doing anything special on those occasions - just helping.
I believe councillors shouldn't just sit in meeting rooms, but should be involved with the community. After 19 years in the community I know that many people recognise me at times. I have literally, at times, laughed and cried with the residents, and I will still keep doing that!
I am just someone who genuinely cares for the community and the area we share.
I want people to feel proud of their surroundings. Please tell me your view using the survey below and let's make our community even better.
